Hollywood’s latest adaptation of a female video game heroine comes in the form of Alicia Vikander. She stars as Lara Croft in the upcoming “Tomb Raider” (March, 2018) based on the most recent version of the video game series.
To mark the occasion, we gathered photos of some of the sexiest wheel-kicking, knife-throwing, neck-breaking, sword-wielding video game heroines and their live-action counterparts.
Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider
The massively popular video game from 1996 lead to nearly 20 spin-offs and two major motion pictures. The first film was a smash hit while the sequel fell short of expectations. Jolie represented the game version of Lara Croft fairly well, but didn’t quite capture the essence of the digital version. Still, a well-chosen actress for the part.
She plays Croft in both films:
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)
Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003)
Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider
Although “The Cradle of Life” didn’t perform very well at the box office, the 2018 reboot of Tomb Raider starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft looks very promising. This latest remake is based on the 2013 version of the game. Based on looks alone, Vikander was the perfect choice.
The next series of films is based on the original 1996 game responsible for coining the term “survival horror” and starting a chain reaction of over 20 sequels and deviations over the next two decades.
The original game was turned into a blockbuster movie that birthed five sequels of its own, including the “Final Chapter” which opened in January, 2017. It wasn’t a bit hit at the box office, but it provided a satisfying conclusion to the series. The storyline involves of a group of people fighting for survival when a virus created by an evil corporation turns humans into zombies.
Milla Jovovich as Alice in Resident Evil
Milla Jovovich has a piercing, intense femininity that portrays the game character to perfection. She plays Alice in all 5 films:
Resident Evil (2002)
Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)
Resident Evil: Extinction (2007)
Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)
Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2017)
In addition to Alice, there are two other gun-strapping hotties with supporting roles in 5 of the 6 Resident Evil films.

Female Fighters in D.O.A. Dead or Alive
The popular fighting game that Hollywood turned into a live-action 2006 film focuses mainly on the female characters for some, perhaps obvious, reason. Although the video game characters’ robust physical attributes from the neck down are nearly impossible to replicate without CGI, the filmmakers still did a pretty good job of finding the right actresses to portray them.

Scarlett Johansson as The Major in Ghost in the Shell
Ghost in the Shell was a highly-successful game born in 1997 that inspired 3 sequels and 5 animated movies. The plot consists of a group of military operatives assigned to bring down a terrorist organization.
This is the 6th film in the series but the first live-action version of the game. It’s also the first one to receive big-budget Hollywood treatment. It stars Scarlett Johansson as “The Major” based on the character “Major Motoko Kusanagi” from the game.
Johansson doesn’t exactly possess the physical traits that embody the original character – perhaps because the character in the video game is Asian – but that’s a discussion for another time. The film was only a modest hit at the box office, but did garner favorable reviews from audiences.
