Fire in the Sky (1993)
Possibly the most believable, and famous story out of the bunch, this film is based on the documented 1975 alien-abduction case of Travis Walton, a forest logger who disappeared for five days after encountering a flying saucer in the woods, then after reappearing, recounted the terrifying experience he endured over those five days.
The aliens in the movie look extremely weird – like old, shriveled, grandpa aliens – but it also explains why aliens are commonly described as having disproportionately-sized heads and huge almond-shaped eyes.
Skinwalker Ranch (2013)
This film is loosely based on events that took place in Utah at the Skinwalker Ranch where people have reported witnessing strange phenomena including UFOs, sasquatch-like creatures, ghosts, and crop circles.
As far as found-footage films go, this one isn’t that bad. As far as sci-fi- paranormal films go, it’s a little better. If you’re a die-hard sci-fi-paranormal-found-footage fan, you might love it.
Alien Abduction (2014)
This one is also based on real events, but in North Carolina where strange lights have been sighted since 1913 in what has come to be known as The Brown Mountain Lights.
It’s not based on any particular event, but on the basis that the area is regularly visited by hostile aliens.
The film sticks with the idea that what you don’t see is scarier than what you do, but it takes that idea a little too far. However, the film does have some really frightening moments along with a very original ending.
The Fourth Kind (2009)
There are 7 kinds of alien encounters:
1. UFO Sighting
2. Physical impression left by a UFO
3. Sighting of an alien being or creature believed to be so.
4. Alien abduction
5. Communication between humans and aliens
6. The death of a human or animal associated with a UFO
7. The creation of an human/alien hybrid à la X-Files
This film supposedly shows actual videotaped sessions of a psychotherapist and her patients who recount their experiences while under hypnosis. Some of the alleged events captured on video include a patient floating off the bed and part of a giant UFO moving over a house. How incredibly convenient that UFOs cause electronic interference.
